With aims to cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and facilitate the understanding of Chinese culture, Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS) has been launched by the Confucius Institute headquarters/Hanban (NOCFL) for outstanding international students and in-service Chinese language teachers abroad to study in the universities in China. This scholarship is generally provided for applicants seeking a master’s in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages or a bachelor’s in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. It can be provided for one-academic year study, one-semester study, or four-week study.
At the beginning of each year, the Confucius Institute headquarters/Hanban releases the admission notice of Confucius Institute Scholarship. Applicants must reach the required scores of the corresponding level of HSK and HSKK tests before they apply to the Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, or some Chinese language test centers in their home countries for the scholarship. The application time is usually from February to April every year.
