The cross-functional curriculum provides a dynamic framework of analytical skills and intellectual tools, providing an integrated approach to solving complex banking and financial problems. In addition to a broad range of core courses, students may select one of three streams representing mainstream areas in which they can obtain a deeper knowledge.
Students study with the School’s permanent faculty. The diverse faculty, which maintain close ties to the banking and financial community, engage in leading research and advance banking and financial knowledge and practices on many fronts including market valuation of financial instruments, risk management and behavioural finance. In addition, some invited professors from renowned finance faculties of other universities teach selected courses.
The programme is ideally suited to students seeking a career in corporate finance, asset and wealth management, banking and related fields. While the majority of incoming students have a prior academic background in economics or business studies, many come from fields such as applied sciences or law.
Many of our past graduates (full-time programmes) have gone on to carve out successful careers in financial institutions, including American Express Bank, ANZ Bank, Bank of China (Shanghai), BNP Paribas, Bank of Singapore, Coutts Private Bank, Great Eastern Life, CIMB Bank, Citibank, Credit Suisse, DBS Bank, HSBC, ING Bank, Merrill Lynch, Maybank, OCBC, Standard Chartered Bank, UBS and UOB.
The world of banking and finance is all about risk. The Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Honours) in Banking and Finance aims to show you how financial institutions manage risk, how financial markets trade risk and how new instruments to control risk are developed for the benefit of the economy as a whole. The programme will give you an insight into the pivotal role of finance in an industrial economy. It will provide you with a thorough understanding of the ways in which financial intermediaries and institutions operate, and the structure and functioning of financial markets, as well as help you develop critical skills for a wide range of real world professional situations.
