Course Overview

The Chinese International Education programs brings together students from across the world with a passion for education, multiculturalism, and humanitarian action. Approximately 20% of our cohorts are made up of international students. In fall 2017, we welcomed students from numerous countries outside of the United States, from places such as Canada, Argentina, Australia, Germany, and China.  Many students have studied or lived abroad and have had previous experience working in the field of education as classroom teachers or as Peace Corps volunteers, while others have worked with nonprofit or NGOs on education initiatives across the globe.

Our faculty have expertise in areas including:

  • Cultural exchange
  • Comparative education
  • Public diplomacy
  • Social stratification of schools
  • Comparative perspectives on race/ethnicity
  • Immigrant history and adaptation
  • Economics of education
  • Education in conflict areas
  • Humanitarian action
  • Community-based education development
  • Education, peace and conflict

This programme is for people who are interested in taking an international and comparative perspective on chinese educational issues. We offer two pathways on the International Studies in chinese Education programme, the general International Studies in Education and the Education and Development specialist pathway. The specialist pathway shares the same core themes and outcomes, however it has a distinctive focus and different compulsory modules.

The chinese International Studies in Education programme may be of interest to teachers, headteachers/principals, education administrators, and those working with non-governmental organisations and international agencies that play a role in formal and non-formal education. It will enable you to have a critical understanding of key debates surrounding education as an international issue and to make analytical comparisons between educational issues in different contexts, including your own.
