Architecture is the practice of designing and building structures. Architects use science, art, technology and humanities to create built environments.
Modern architecture integrates environmental and sustainable design principles with advanced technologies to produce functional and beautiful buildings. Unlike many universities, we teach architecture students alongside civil engineering students in our joint department. This gives you a unique opportunity to work with engineers to better understand how to build the spaces you imagine and design. Through complex design challenges, you'll explore what makes a good building and learn how cultural, historical and socio-economic factors influence design decisions.
BA Architecture graduates are highly valued for their confidence and creativity, and benefit from our strong links with national and international architectural practices.
They have gone on to successful careers in areas including architecture, project management, urban design, advertising, real estate, art and design, web design, art history, estate management, and banking.
Architecture is a dynamic subject involving a wide range of activities, from studio design and model-making, to the study of art, history and culture. It requires imagination alongside practical and technical skills.
Central to this course will be the time you will spend in the design studio. You will have access to our extensive studio facilities - including workshop and computer-modelling software
