Course Overview

Gain the foundational knowledge and tools needed for corporate financial analysis and decision making. This professional graduate certificate is designed for professionals currently working in the financial services industry or who are responsible for making financial decisions.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

Develop an understanding of the theory and practice of corporate finance with an understanding of discounted cash flow, valuation, risk and return, capital asset pricing model, corporate capital structure, capital budgeting, mergers and acquisitions, and investment and financing decisions.

Skills

Identify and search financial data sources such as company reports, web publications, library databases in order to obtain relevant financial data.
Learn how to apply spreadsheets to calculate the values of projects or securities.
Carry out risk and sensitivity analysis of projects.

This course builds on the concept of net present value so as to account for uncertainty, taxes and strategic concerns before using these concepts to analyse financing and investment decisions from the perspective of financial managers. You will develop the basic framework for decision-making and you will investigate the theories of corporate finance, the analytical techniques used to value assets, and various aspects of the financial markets. In this context, this course will explore the relationship between the investment and financing decisions, with particular emphasis on capital budgeting, dividend policy, capital structure, leasing decision and corporate acquisition.
