The university is located at No. 9 West Section of Lushun South Road in Dalian, Liaoning, covering an area of 1.51 million square meters, with a construction area of 532,000 square meters. The fixed assets of the university amount to 2.07 billion yuan, of which the teaching and research instruments and equipment is valued at 360 million yuan. The university library houses 2.234 million books and 61 unique types of database resources, providing access to over 20,000 kinds of full-text Chinese and foreign electronic journals. There are 23 teaching and scientific research units (including 3 clinical colleges), 18 affiliated hospitals, and 21 undergraduate programs.
There are 1 national key disciplines, and 2 disciplines entered the top 1% of ESI global institutions. There are four postdoctoral research stations, four first-level doctoral programs, and nine first-level master's degree programs. There are 1 innovation team of the ministry of education and 9 innovation teams in liaoning province.
The university is rich in education capabilities with over 8,300teaching staff，doctors and nurses among whom nearly 1,700 professors and associate professors, over 180 doctoral supervisors and over 1,500 master tutors.
There are 13,800 enrolled students among whom more than 4,500 are in postgraduate programs, more than 8,200 are in undergraduate programs, about 1,100 are international students from countries all over the world. As one of the universities awarded the “Excellent Physician Training Program”by the Education Ministry, and second batch transformation development pilot university in Liaoning Province, the university has been awarded the first prize in the northeast division of National Clinical Skill Competition for Medical School Students for seven consecutive years, and won the national grand prize three times and the first prize twice. The pass rate of Medical practitioners examination was 86.51%, 12.92% higher than national average.
The university has 1 national Joint International Research Center, 2 national International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, 1 national local joint engineering laboratory.
DMU has 3 directly affiliated teaching hospitals with nearly 8700 beds in total. The First Affiliated Hospital has six national clinical key specialties, and has entered the top 100 hospitals in China for two consecutive years. It has the only national unique one-stop cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment center, the national first-batch and the only national standardization metabolic disease management center and china-us cooperation nerve gastrointestinal center in the northeast, the first respiratory sleep disorders center, the national colorectal cancer MDT center, etc. The Second Affiliated Hospital has one national clinical key specialty and five medical centers in liaoning province, the first medical alliance in southern liaoning. There is the only liver transplant admission unit in dalian, and the most advanced bone marrow transplant ward in northeast China. In 2016, Second Affiliated Hospital was awarded the best hospital management team in China, and became one of the only winning hospitals in the three northeastern provinces and one of the 16 winning hospitals in China. It is the national comprehensive hospital of TCM work demonstration unit, the national advanced stroke center, China's most influential cancer medical institution, the national top 100 nursing infants hospital. The Third Affiliated hospital is under construction.
The university vigorously promotes education internationalization and widely carries out domestic and foreign exchanges and cooperation. International education has entered top 100 universities in China. DMU is assessed to be the first batch of international education model university nationwide. The Ministry of Education approves DMU to qualify in enrolling Chinese Government Scholarship students. It is on the list of the WHO and degrees are recognized by most countries in the world.The enrollment of foreign students covers 109 countries and regions in five continents. It has established close collaborative relationships with over a hundred universities and research institutions from more than 30 countries and regions, including the USA, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Russia and Japan, etc. In 2012, DMU received permission from Ministry of Education, DMU commenced the Joint Venture Program of Master of Public Health (MPH) with Benedictine University.
