It was made as capital in ten dynasties. The ancient wall of Nanjing, built in 1360’s, is the best-maintained ancient wall in the world. In spring you may celebrate the Plum Blossom Festival in Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, built in the Ming Dynasty, about 500 years ago. In summer you may taste local grapes as well as Chinese rural scenery in Jiangxin Island or walk around the Qinhuai Lake near Confucius Temple. SEU is a key university directly under the administration of MOE (Ministry of Education, China). The disciplines of SEU covers the fields of science, engineering, medicine, humanities, law, philosophy, education, economics, management, art, etc. It is a research-oriented comprehensive institution with 3 national key labs, 11 ministerial key labs, 3 national engineering research centers and 5 ministerial engineering research centers. The university now comprises 29 schools or departments with 76 undergraduate disciplines in all. SEU has three main campuses, covering the total area of 447 hectares. 31,470 full-time students, including 15,017 full-time postgraduate students and nearly 2,000 international students are studying here. In MOE’s national discipline assessment of 2017, SEU’s disciplines of architecture, civil engineering, biomedical engineering, transportation engineering, artistic theory rank No. 1. In 2017, SEU is in the selected list of universities which will participate in the country’s construction plan of world-class universties and first-class disciplines, also known as the “Double First-Class” initiative. 11 SEU’s deciplines of material science and engineering, electronic science and technology, information and communication engineering, control science and engineering, computer science and technology, architecture, civil engineering, transportation engineering, biological and medical engineering, landscape architecture, art theory are in the selected list of deciplines.
SEU attaches great importance to international cooperation & exchanges. Agreements of cooperation have been signed with more than 100 universities, research institutes or corporations in foreign countries. SEU began to accept foreign students in 1950’s. Currently nearly 2000 international students are studying at SEU. Besides all Chinese-instructed programs, foreign students can take Chinese classes at various levels, participate in tour study programs, or choose English-taught programs, including English-taught medical undergraduate program and 14 English-taught master’s programs of international trade/international business, public health, architecture, electronic science and technology, electrical engineering, civil engineering, transportation engineering, computer technology, industrial design engineering, control engineering, instrument and meter engineering, power engineeing and thermal physics, biology, artistic theory. SEU is authorized to accept the students sponsored by Chinese Government Scholarship, Jasmine Scholarship of Jiangsu Province and Nanjing Municipal Government Scholarship. Besides, excellent foreign students will be awarded SEU President Scholarship and Enterprise Scholarship.
