SISU adheres to the strategy of “people-oriented, becoming a powerful source of talented professional people”, takes cultivation, introduction and use seriously and comprehensively implements the program of developing faculties. SISU currently employs 1,100 people, more than 680 teachers, including about 42% of the volume of teachers in terms of professors and associate professors, about 23%, in terms of teachers with PhD, and about 81%, in terms of teachers with Master degree. There are more than 80 experts who have granted honor at provincial or ministerial level. Among them, there are 5 experts enjoying special government allowance from the States Council, 3 excellent teachers from the whole country, 3 teaching masters in Chongqing Municipality, 4 outstanding teachers in Chongqing, 1 young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution of the first evaluation in Chongqing, 4 members of Foreign Language Teaching Association of Ministry of Education, 6 academic leaders of Chongqing, 1 being recognized as “model teacher and educator” in Chongqing, 11 members of review committee of senior position in foreign language in Chongqing, and 13 members of review committee of senior position in translation in Chongqing.
SISU has classrooms with multimedia facilities and sound labs for foreign language teaching, translation and oral interpretation - the best in Southwest China. Advanced teaching facilities have helped to ensure that the highest quality teaching, academic research and management occurs at SISU. The university library boasts a collection of more than 1.6 million books which includes foreign language and literature works published in foreign countries, reference books and dictionaries on language studies. In addition, the library subscribes to about 3,000 periodicals in both Chinese and foreign languages.
Inter-college exchanges have been established between SISU and about 80 universities around the world. Extensive cooperation and exchanges have been going on between SISU and other Chinese or foreign colleges in the training of teachers and the education of teachers and the education of undergraduates and postgraduates. The University is the only Chinese university officially recognized by Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). In cooperation with education institutions of other countries, SISU has set up some institutions of international education and cultural exchange on its campus, such as Alliance française de Chongqing, the Goethe Language Center, the Russian Language Center, the Cervantes Institute, and China Office of the Commonwealth of the University of Toulouse, and it has established Confucius Institutes at Lome University of Togo, Nizhny Novgorod Language University of Russia and University of West Florida, America. Cooperating with the University of Newcastle, Australia, SISU is now offering an ‘International dual-degree’ joint program in Business English.
