China Agricultural University (CAU) is one of the top ranked key national universities in China and directly subordinated to the Ministry of Education. As the oldest agricultural higher educational institution in China, CAU’s history can be dated back to October 1905, when the College of Agriculture was founded by the Qing Dynasty in the Jing Shi Da Xue Tang (the former Imperial University of Peking and the present Peking University). CAU has two campuses, with a total area of 133 hectares. With more than one-hundred years of history, CAU has developed itself as a comprehensive university with agriculture, life sciences, agricultural engineering and food science as its feature and strength. It covers a wide range of disciplines on a complementary basis, such as agricultural science and life science, resources and environmental sciences, information and computer science, agricultural engineering and automation science, economics and management and social sciences, etc.
China Agricultural University is authorized to award academic degrees at BSc, MSc, PhD and Post-PhD levels. The Undergraduate Program is organized within one of the 16 colleges, and Master’s and Doctoral Programs are conducted under the direction of the Graduate School, which is the first such school of this kind among all agricultural universities in China. CAU currently offers 95 Doctoral Programs, 144 Master Programs, and 65 Undergraduate Programs. In addition, 15 Post-Doctor Working-Stations are well equipped. So far CAU has 12 Master Programs and 11 Doctoral Programs delivered in English to international students. The total number of students is about 20000, including 4478 master students, 3183 doctoral students.
CAU is proud of the high qualifications of its academic professionals. All of them stand at the very front of their respective specialized areas not only in China, but also in the world. CAU has a total of 1654 highly qualified faculty members, including 5 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 7 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 588 Professors, and 852 Associate Professors. At present, CAU has 3 national key laboratories,1 national engineering laboratories, 2 national engineering research centers, 91 state key laboratories.
CAU consistently values international cooperation and exchanges. It has established partnership with 209 universities and institutes in 41 countries and regions, through which CAU set up many international education, research and training programs to help students enhance their global visions and international experiences. CAU has foreign students at different levels from more than 80 countries in Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.
