UESTC was founded in 1956. Fifty years’ efforts and cultivations have witnessed the University’s process from sole dependence on electronic information engineering to all-around programs in electronic disciplines, and the University now turns out to be a key multidisciplinary university with electronic information science and technology as its nucleus, engineering as its major field, and incorporates science, management and liberal arts.
UESTC occupies a total area of 635 acres, including three campuses: Qingshuihe Shahe, Jiulidi. UESTC library boasts of a storage of 4.847 million books and digital recourses around 220TB. Besides, UESTC has kinds of sports facilities like outdoor playground, indoor gym, tennis court, swimming pool and so on.
UESTC has more than 3,400 faculty members. Among them over 2000 are full-time teachers, more than 390 are professors. UESTC has a current enrollment of 32,000 students, including 10000 doctors and masters. There are 455 international students on campus currently, 374 of which are masters and doctors.
UESTC keeps close link with more than 200 universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises from over 30 countries and regions all over the world. Currently, there are on campus approximately 500 international students from more than 30 countries, including undergraduate, master, doctoral, exchange and visiting students. The university organizes international academic conferences more than ten times annually. Besides, it often sends a large number of teachers abroad for further study, cooperation research and international conferences. The university has signed cooperation training agreements with such well-known foreign universities as UCB, UCLA, the Northwest University, Queen Marry of London University, etc. World-renown companies like Intel, Microsoft, TI and IBM have set up in this university joint -laboratories, research centers, scholarship projects, etc, and participate directly in the personnel training. The university positively introduces high quality educational talents from abroad participating in personnel cultivating, and established the joint school (School of UoG-UESTC Joint School) with university of Glasgow and some other cooperative programs as IMBA, DBA with American and Portugal universities.
The university is to be built into a first-rate university with its leading status in the field of electronic information worldwide, a foundation of high and new tech as well as a base for the cultivation of innovative talents.
