Beijing Film Academy is the largest and world-renowned film academy in Asia. It is also a Beijing-based art academy supported by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is also known as a cradle of Chinese film makers. In the rankings of top 25 film universities in the world published by Hollywood Reports magazine in 2011 and 2012, Beijing Film Academy ranked third for two consecutive years.

With an area of 7 hectares, Beijing Film Academy has about 3,000 full-time students, and about 3,000 students in undergraduate and junior college program, in foreign studies, on-the-job graduate program, graduate course program, further study and training program. The Academy is building a new campus of 44 hectares, that accommodate 6,000 students.
Features
For generations of development, the Academy has been offering multilevel incubators for multidisciplinary film talents. The Academy focuses on film making, teaching, creation and research. In June 2007, Beijing Film Academy passed the evaluation of undergraduate teaching organized by the Ministry of Education with “excellent” results.
Faculty
Beijing Film Academy has a faculty of 527, 287 of whom are full-time teachers including 59 professors and 120 associate professors, 21 doctoral supervisors and 158 master supervisors, as well as 26 experts with special government allowance. Most of the teachers are experts, scholars, academic leaders, middle-aged and young outstanding teachers or film artists in the field of film and television education at home and abroad, and have won many awards for film and television creation at home and abroad.

Beijing Film Academy has 3 first-level disciplines of drama and film studies, fine arts, art theory. It has 5 departments, that is, Department of Literature, Director Department, Department of Photography, Department of Film Studies, and Department of Film and Television Technology, 11 branch institutes, that is, Performance Academy, Sound Academy, Academy of Fine Arts, Animation College, School of Management, College of Photography, International Exchange Academy, Digital Media College, Audiovisual Media College, Higher Vocational College, and Continuing Education College, as well as Graduate School, Foundation Department and Training Center. The Beijing Film Academy covers every aspect of film creation. It is the only institution that can create independent feature films. The comprehensive strength of the discipline of film science leads the nation and is among the best in the world.
Hardware facilities
Digital Cinema Technology and Art Lab is a key laboratory in Beijing. The Recording Lab is the only laboratory in the country that has been certified by the international sound authority, Dolby Company. The Recording Lab is experimental teaching demonstration center in Beijing. Beijing Film Academy Social Practice Hengdian Film and Television Base is a training ground for talents outside Beijing. The per student teaching and scientific research equipment worth 280,000 yuan, can better meet the needs of teaching, research and artistic creation for teachers and students.

Research and development strength
The Youth Film Studio of Beijing Film Academy is not only the organizing and guiding unit of student film creation practice, but also the production unit of teachers' artistic innovation practice. According to incomplete statistics, films that the Studio created or participated in creation were granted a total of 77 domestic and foreign film awards. Of the more than 10,000 film works of new China, about 70% were created by the school alumni. The teachers and graduates of the Academy have won numerous national awards such as the Gold Rooster Award, The Hundred Flowers Award, Huabiao Awards, and The Best Works Award for Chinese films. Teachers and graduates have won many awards at major international film festivals including Oscar, Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Tokyo.
