Beautiful Campus Environment and Convenient Living Facilities
A sophisticated, user-friendly integrated network has been setup upon BFU campus to cover all the classroom buildings, research facilities and living quarters. Digital service platforms, such as the public database and the digital campus, are providing easy accesses and real-time information retrieval for the faculty and students. The all-in-one card and other major applications systems have not only integrated all the information resources on the campus, but also greatly streamlined the work of the service departments on the campus, much to the benefits of the teachers and students. Sixty years of unyielding efforts by all members have now crystallized into a unique culture of BFU that motivates the university to develop itself into the “Champion in Earth Stewardship and Leader in Forestry Education”. BFU is open to the world. It has established long-term and stable relationships of cooperation with over 180 celebrated foreign colleges and universities, first-class research institutes and famous multinational companies. It actively develops the student exchange programs and joint degree awarding with the well-known colleges and universities all over the world. Every year exchange students from different countries and areas come to BFU for study or research programs.
Strong Faculty Team
There are at present over 1,100 full-time teachers in BFU, among which over 600 bear professional titles of associate professor and above, and over 900 are holders of master degree and above. The faculty also includes three academicians, one candidate for the Program of Global Talents, four recipients of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists, four Cheung Kong Scholarship winners, eight State-accredited Experts for Distinguished Contributions, eight candidates for the Baiqianwan Project (a state plan for fostering talents needed in the new century), and 86 recipients for the State Council’s government special allowance.
First-Class Scientific Research Level
BFU has witnessed over the past decade a booming in its scientific researches and remarkable boost in its capacity for technological innovations, as shown by the rich research outputs it has reaped. In the decade between 2002—2011, the total input of the university for researches reached RMB 860 m, which in turn has earned BFU 15 grand State-level awards and much higher visibility for the academic papers written by its faculty in the retrieval returns of the 3 most authoritative citation indexes.
Thanks to the importance attached by BFU to industry-academia-research integration, numerous fieldwork bases have been established throughout the country to promote speedy conversion of research findings into productivities. A few examples of these bases are: the experimental, demonstrative and promotional base for new forestry technologies in northern China, the comprehensive fieldwork base in the forest regions in southern China (located in Sanming city, Fujian province), the demonstrative site for the development and industrialization of fine quality floral seeds, the innovation and conversion base for technologies applicable to woody materials, the demonstrative site for quality seeds applicable to afforestation projects on the plains in northern China, and the base for economic forests (Chinese dates) breeding and planting.
Prominent Discipline Advantage
BFU is consistently committed to developing its advanced disciplines. There is a First Category national key discipline (under which seven second category key disciplines are included), two second category national key disciplines, one key (backup) national discipline, and a number of key disciplines at provincial/ministerial level. With forestry (a First Category discipline) in the leading position among its national counterparts, competitive advantages have taken shape that highlight the university’s specialties in forest resources conservation, landscape architecture and human habitation environment, bio-materials and energies, ecology and environment, forest biology, as well as in humanities and social sciences.
