It covers an area of over 3000 mu with 1120,000 square meters for construction area, including old campus, new campus, Taipingyang campus.
The university includes 23colleges .it has 78 undergraduate subjects, 21 senior specialized subjects, 100master degree subjects and 7doctor degree subjects. Currently, more than 29,000 students are studying in the university. The university has over 1900 teachers and employees with more than 400 professors and associate professors. The cost of teaching and research facility is over 4million RMB. School is a multi-ethnic unity socialist motherland in miniature. All nationalities ARE equality and unity, mutual respect, and common progress, the national language and customs are fully respected.
The university boasts a strong scientific research capability. It has the Ethnographic Museum and the biggest museum of Tibetan literature in the world. Since it has been established over 60 years, the university has cultivated more than 140,000 various talents form 45 nationalities, among which the first Tibetan doctor, the first Qing doctor, the first group of Tibetan generals, many famous experts, scholars and leaders at various levels have come forth. Many more graduates have become backbones in various fields and have made outstanding contributions to the liberalization of various minorities, regimes establishment, and cement of frontiers, solidarity of nationalities, economic development and social advancement.
The university is a key opening-up unit of Sichuan province. So far, experts, scholars and government officials from over 70 countries have come to make academic exchanges and visits. SWUN has established inter-university cooperative relations with foreign colleges of Britain Manchester University, Birmingham University, New Zealand Waikato University, and Canada Indian United College, USA. Seattle Washington University and academic exchange relations with the research institutes of USA, Japan and Switzerland and finished many international cooperative research projects. SWUN has hired a group of famous experts and professors to lecture and teach in the university and sends teachers and researchers abroad for investigation, lecture and study every year.
