HZAU consists of 18 colleges and departments, with more than 2600 faculty and staff andover 25000 students. Featuring life sciences and giving prominence to agricultural disciplines, HZAU has achieved coordinated development of multi-disciplines of agriculture, science, engineering, humanities, law, economics, management, etc.
There are 1502 faculty members, of whom 332are professors, 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 academicians of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, 1 foreign associate of U.S. National Academy of Sciences, 18 “1000 Plan” chair professors, 20 chair professors of “Yangtze River Scholars Program” of the Ministry of Education,6 chief scientists of National Project 973, 2 chairmen of international academic organizations, 6 members of Discipline Evaluation Panel of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council,17 winners of National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation Award, 4 National Prominent Teachers, 7 National-level Teaching Teams and 38national, ministerial and provincial levelscience and technologyinnovation teams.
HZAU boasts two national key laboratories, one national and local joint engineering laboratory, 4 national R&D centers, 19 provincial and ministerial key laboratories. Significant achievement has been obtained in the fields of modern biotechnology, hybrid rapeseeds, green super rice, lean swine, animal vaccines, high-quality citrus and etc, and one of which has been selected for the Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress Awards at Chinese universities in 2011. HZAU is the only higher education institution which has won the title of Advanced Unit in the implementation of the national program "863".
In recent years, the annual initial employment rate of college graduates of HZAU has been maintained around 94%, taking the leading position among the national colleges and universities. HZAU has produced notable alumni, including academicians of the two Academies, senior government officials, well-known entrepreneurs andthe role models of college students like Xu Benyu, who received Touching China Awards in 1999.
