Founded in 1960, BJUT pioneered its unique path through high-quality development within sixty years of constant construction, painstaking efforts and bold creativity. In 1996, BJUT was included in National 211 Project, joining the rank of China’s 100 top universities in 21st century. In 2016, BJUT has entered the Top 100 in the QS Asian University Rankings for the first time. Its disciplines of Materials, Engineering and Chemistry rank within the Top 1% of the 2016 ESI International Rankings, and the disciplines of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Electronic & Electric Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Materials and Chemistry rank within the Top 400 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. In 2017, BJUT has officially entered the list of the national Double First-Class Strategic Program and become one of the universities with First-Class Discipline Construction.
Currently, BJUT has 3 national key disciplines, 39 key disciplines of Beijing municipality, 18 first category doctoral programs, 1 second category doctoral programs, 31 first category master’s degree programs, 3 second category master’s degree programs, 18 post-doctoral programs and 66 bachelor’s degree programs. As of August 2017, BJUT has around 3000 staff members in total. Among them, over 1700 are full-time faculty including 6 full-time Academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 3 winners of the National Award of Distinguished Faculty in Higher Education, 10 specially-appointed professors of Yangtze River Scholars Program of MOE, 12 winners of National Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 14 candidates of the China Global Experts Recruitment Program.
As of April 2017, BJUT has more than 250,000 students including 9800 graduate students, 13,000 undergraduate students, 2076 part-time undergraduates of continuing education and 1027 international students from 95 countries and regions, among which 495 are degree-seeking students including 126 PhD-seeking students. Up to now, BJUT has contributed more than 140,000 outstanding graduates for society and has increasingly become a significant base of high-quality innovative talent cultivation, a major power of regional science and technology innovation, a vital think tank for urban construction and development, and an important channel of international exchange and cooperation for Beijing.
