Course Overview

Business Analytics is not based on rote memorization of equations or facts, but focuses on honing your understanding of key concepts, your managerial judgment, and your ability to apply course concepts to real business problems.

This course is for anyone who has encountered—or plans to encounter—a data set and has wondered how to make sense of it. There are no prerequisites for the program. Business Analytics is intended for individuals at all stages of their careers—college students and recent graduates without a background in statistics, those considering an MBA or other graduate program who would like to strengthen their analytical skills, or professionals seeking data literacy.

Participating in Business Analytics will allow you to:

Recognize trends, detect outliers, and summarize data sets concisely
Analyze relationships between variables
Develop and test hypotheses to inform managerial decisions
Craft sound survey questions and draw conclusions from samples of a larger population
Estimate the accuracy of statistics by calculating confidence intervals
Perform single and multiple variable regression analysis using Excel and interpret the output

This degree is designed to meet a growing need for graduates with a sound education in business and the specialist skills to help organisations understand their customers, forecast future demand and use big data to make effective decisions. You’ll learn to use industry-standard analytics software and develop the mathematical skills required to gain insights from a range of data sources, including the internet and social media data. In addition, this is business analytics BSc to include a foundation in programming – a valuable skill for your future career. You’ll put your knowledge into practice at the end of the course by working on a project to address a real-world industry issue. Your learning will be informed by the expertise of our research-focused academics, while input from industry ensures the course content meets today’s business needs.
