BA Chinese Studies will provide you with a firm grounding in Mandarin Chinese and in contemporary Chinese culture, society, economy and politics, as well as China's changing relations with the West.
You will study Mandarin Chinese throughout the course. The core language teaching in Mandarin Chinese enables you to develop various linguistic skills, including:

This will open up numerous paths with an international dimension (eg business and finance). You will also have excellent all-round communication skills, making you a strong contender for openings in the media, PR and similar areas.
Many of our graduates go straight into business services, marketing, advertising, management, banking or communications. Others opt for postgraduate study or further vocational training to become accountants, lawyers, teachers or enter the Civil Service.

Through the expertise and experience of the Chinese Studies staff, we offer a wide range of modules, many of which draw upon the cutting-edge research undertaken here. Our degrees give you the opportunity to become an expert on China and the broader region, acquire a wide range of transferable skills in research, writing, analysis, presentation, project management and teamwork, as well as attain an advanced level of Chinese language. Final year students regularly pass the highest level of the Chinese language proficiency test (HSK)
